Alex Wheatle Sufferah - Memoir of a Brixton Reggae Head
Abandoned as a baby to the care system, in a searing memoir the award-winning writer shares the story of growing up with no knowledge of his Jamaican parentage or family history, and the challenges of living as a young Black man in 1980s Britain and a prison sentence which opened his eyes to books. He went on to become a leading novelist whose Crongton Knights won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. Alex’s youth was portrayed in Oscar Award-winning director Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series.
