Jackie Morris East of the Sun, West of the Moon
The writer and artist, best known as the illustrator of the phenomenal The Lost Words, brings us two new books: The two ‘Tales from the Wild’ – East of the Sun, West of the Moon and The Wild Swans - are works that stimulate the eye, heart and mind. Jackie has taken two familiar folk tales and re-wilded them – restoring their danger and wonder and strangeness by anchoring them in two strong and convention-denying heroines. Like her wonderful dream sequences in The Unwinding, these books work for adults and children because they remind us that all the great stories are tales of transformation, bridges between the human and the animal, ways of re-connecting with the wild. Pile high on your myths and folktales table next to the Morpurgos, Carters, Garners, and Crossley-Hollands. Jackie Morris’ books include The Ice Bear, The Snow Leopard, Tell Me a Dragon, and she illustrated How the Whale Became by Ted Hughes. She will be talking to John Mitchinson from Unbound who helped to found the television panel game show, QI, and has co-written all their books. He was Waterstones’ first marketing director and has held many senior publishing roles.
