Sir Richard Eyre A Life on Stage and Screen
We are thrilled to welcome one of the country’s most distinguished directors. He ran the National Theatre from 1987 to 1997, and is the director of film, theatre, television and opera. His numerous screen triumphs include iris and Zoe Heller’s novel Notes on a Scandal, The Dresser with Anthony Hopkins and the noted 1982 revival of Guys and Dolls, his version of Ghosts, the musical of Mary Poppins. He directed Jennifer Saunders and Judi Dench in the recent film of Alan Bennett's Allelujah. His work also includes a number of acclaimed productions of Shakespeare: Hamlet, with Jonathan Pryce and Daniel Day-Lewis; Richard III with Sir Ian McKellen; King Lear with Ian Holm and on screen with Anthony Hopkins; and the television version of Henry IV Parts 1 and II. He will reflect on the challenges and rewards of bringing work to stage and screen and, author of several books and a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he will read from his new collection of poetry, Place to Place.
